A pre-purchase examination or “vetting” a horse, is an examination intended for potential equine buyers to identify health problems and ability to perform at the desired level.
Pre-purchase examinations are completely tailored towards the horse and buyer’s needs and we will work together to achieve that.
A standard Pre-Purchase Exam includes:
- A comprehensive physical examination from nose to tail, including eyes, ears, skin, and the oral cavity
- Full lameness assessment at the walk, trot, and canter on hard and soft ground
- Flexions of each limb as well as neck and back palpation
- Musculoskeletal assessment
- Neurological evaluation
Optional Pre-Purchase Examination Additions
- Radiographs
- Systemic bloodwork
- Ultrasonography
- Reproductive exam
- Coggins test – testing for Equine Infectious Anemia
- Metabolic testing
- Fecal parasite testing
- Drug panel screening
- Sedated oral examination with speculum
